answered prayers

yesterday was a day of answered prayers. we headed back to the cardiologist for our three week check in and it couldn’t have gone better (well maybe if they couldn’t find the leak still). (which the doctor knows i’m going to ask so he answers as soon as he hears it) but you guys… otto did amazing. when otto gets a chance to lay flat on his back he turns into a mighty morphing power ranger and does all sort of ninja karate moves. the kid loooooves to be left alone to play. however yesterday he laid absolutely still for his ekg. i mean that is 13 stickers and wires all hooked up to him and he just laid there looking up at the nurse. like he knew exactly what he had to do to get out of there.

we waited patiently for our cardiologist to come in and its a great feeling when they walk in with a smile. he said otto is handling the leak with flying colors. he is gaining amazing weight (about double what they expected) and breathing comfortably (the two things that will indicate time for the second surgery). i don’t know why i’m amazed every time. sunday i felt this overwhelming sense of peace that things are going to be ok. and going into this appointment i was hopeful but still held my breath. this was the best appointment we have had yet. it went so good in fact that they are going to try and cut back his medicine, increase his feeds via the pump and we do not have to go back until early january.

every visit it seems we get more and more time in between appointments. i was so excited the nurses must think i’m nuts. otto was nakey so they gave him this big white blanket to wrap him up in and out of my mouth flew “otto, you look just like baby jesus in that blanket”. i think joe actually face palmed. i was just so excited! when i’m mad or excited you never know what might come out of my mouth.

we left there on cloud nine. it was such again, an answer to prayer.

today we have to go back to the hospital for some kidney ultrasounds and otto needs a VCUG which is going to suck. but i’m hopeful and optimistic that everything will work out in our favor again. the medicines he is on to relieve fluid from his lungs is very hard on his kidneys so they are keeping a close eye on him.

so grateful for amazing, watchful and caring doctors.

thank you all so much for your support and prayers for otto and our family. someday i will find the words to express how truly grateful we are. until then thank you.
