There are two season in Michigan. Winter and patio season. The year 2020 is all about using the patio facilities as much as possible. Restaurants are able to be open at 50% capacity and while so many are taking it seriously and implementing all of the best practices we still prefer to eat outside for now. Patio dates are the best dates.
We’ve been creative this summer with fun dates and activities. Typically our third wheel (otto) is tagging a long but he for the most part just sits and watches peppa pig or enjoys the festivities as much as us. The summer makes things seem to carefree in Michigan and right now we are having a bit of a rare August cold spell that gently taps us on the shoulder letting us know that fall is not too far off.
Here is a list of some of the fun dates we’ve been on that have been a break from our typical types of dates.
1.) Enjoy a patio! We have had great experiences in the west Michigan area at Reserve, Butchers Union, Donkey, Hancock and Coast 326. All were following proper covid cautions and we had great service and meals. We like to go at 4-5pm and typically are the first diners there.
2.) Get your dinner to go and eat it on the beach, park or tailgate. We had Salt of the Earth to go last week and found a park to eat it at while Otto ran around. It was lovely and felt very safe.
3.) Go for a walk around the garden center. We’ve done a lot of work around the farm this spring and summer and it was a nice date to go and wander the aisles of the outside garden and landscape centers planning out our next projects. Or visit a farmers market!
4.) Coffee and a walk. We spend a lot of our weekends in the Pentwater area and enjoy an iced latte while walking the streets looking at old houses or on the beach.
5.) Go on a city mural tour. After grabbing a coffee walk around your city and find the murals and art installations. Grand Rapids has some incredible paintings right now all around the city.
We have been soaking up every minute of summer and still have one or two full months left to enjoy it. What are some creative dates you have been going on lately?
